Description The Japanese Cleyera is an evergreen shrub with leathery, green foliage, the leaves flush a bronzy-red color and are very shiney. Japanese Cleyera has small, yellowish-white flowers that are very fragrant. Ternstroemia gymnanthera is a great substitute for Red Tip Photinia and can be used as a hedge, container, foundation or poolside plant. It grows to be 6-8 feet in height and can be kept smaller with pruning. Cleyera grows best in a well drained acidic soil. Hardiness: USDA Zones
