Description The Compact Cherry Laurel is an evergreen shrub or tree with dark green, glossy leaves, having a more compact growth habit and smaller leaves than the species. The leaves give off a fragrance similar to maraschino cherries when crushed, but be careful they are poisonous!! In the spring fragrant white flowers blossom followed by cherry-like black fruit, eaten by wildlife but can be poisoness to humans. The Compact Cherry Laurel can grow to be 10-12 feet in height with a 6-8 foot spread. This tree or shrub has drought, wind and heat tolerance and the species is a Texas Native. Best to grow in East Texas, the foliage will get chlorotic in soils with high pH. Hardiness: USDA Zones 7-10
