Pinus elliottii - Slash Pine

Description

Slash Pine is a rapid growing Pine with dimensions of 40-60 feet and even a possible 100 feet in height. The Slash Pine is pyramidal in youth then it becomes more open or round topped with age. Its needles are light green and come in clumps or fasicles of 2's or 3's. This Pine is native to the Southeastern part of the country and has been planted outside of its native habitat for the forestry industry. The Slash Pine does best in a well drained acidic soil and can tolerate dry soil better than most large Pines. Pines are much more adaptable to Southern growing conditions than conifer trees such as spruce or firs.
