Black Fountain Grass

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Moudry' - Black Fountain Grass

Description

Pennisetum spp. are tuft-forming plants usually have leaf blades that are flat. They are usually grown for their flower clusters (plumes) that appear in summer to fall and can be used in flower arrangements both fresh and dried. Most species are fairly frost hardy. Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Moudry' is a warm season grass that has origins in Japan and East Asia. This cultivar is similar to the species it differs in that the leaves are wider giving it a coarser appearance overall and the flowers emerge brown and mature to black.
