Musa
'Basjoo'
Hardy Fiber Banana

Musa 'Basjoo' - Hardy Fiber Banana

Description

Musa 'Basjoo' is known as Hardy Fiber Banana because it is the most cold hardy banana in the world! This banana is from the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. 'Basjoo' is known to survive temperatures of -3F and -20F if mulch is used. This is a great banana to use for a tropical looking landscape in colder climates. The Hardy Fiber Banana has 6' long bright green leaves with red down the mid vein. 'Basjoo' has a clumping growth habit and can get 8-15 foot tall at maturity. When fully mature this banana will produce yellow-orange flowers, followed by 2" long small bananas. The fruit is not edible but the cold hardiness more than makes up for that!
