Variegated Japanese Silver Grass

Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'- Japanese Silver Grass

Description

Miscanthus is a group of ornamental grasses that make excellent perennials. They are clump forming plants with reed-like stems and leaves that are narrow and arch to the ground. The flower heads are puffy plumes that form in late summer to fall and make good cut or dried flowers. Most species are moderately frost hardy. Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' has leaves that have a narrow band of clear white on the leaf margins, causing them to appear silver from a distance. The foliage grows 4 to 5 feet tall, with flowers 5 to 6 feet tall. The flowers emerge a reddish-bronze color and dry to a fluffy cream.
