Lobelia cardinalis - Cardinal Flower

Description

Lobelia cardinalis is a native to Texas, scattered throughout the state near ponds and streams. Cardinal Flower can reach 36" tall and have a spread of 12" at maturity. Lobelia is best if it is planted in masses to show off those beautiful red flowers. This Texas Native will bloom from summer through fall, the bright red flowers are borne on up to 2" long spikes. This is a great perennial to use to attract hummingbirds, which can best be viewed in the fall when they are most active. Cardinal Flower can be grow in part sun to full sun, in full sun they will have the showiest flower display but they will require more water than if in part sun.
