Ilex cassine - Dahoon Holly

Description

Ilex cassine is a pyramidal densely branched Holly that can get 20-30' tall and 8-15' wide. Dahoon Holly produces many red to orange berries in the fall. The leaves are dark green and leathery in texture with one spine at the tip of the leaf. This Holly is native to the swamps of N. Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana. Dahoon Holly does best on acidic soil and will tolerate wet soils.
