Description

Dietes iridioides is native from South Africa to E. Africa to Kenya. Butterfly Iris is a perennial iris that grows and spreads through rhizomes. The leaves have a fan shaped growth habit and the plant can get 12-24" in height and spread to 12". Butterfly Iris will flower from spring and through the summer with white flowers with a yellow stripe down the center on the petals. The flowers look similar to butterflies hence the name Butterfly Iris.
