| Costus cuspidatus
|
Description Costus cuspidatus is also known as Costus igneus in a former life and now is being reclassified as Chamaecostus cuspidatus. We won't ask what this plant has been up to to need all the changes in identity! Fiery Costus hails from the rainforests of Brazil and along with other Costus spp. is a spiral ginger, meaning it has true stems and the foliage is spirally arranged around the stems. In fact because this ginger has true stems it can be propagated by stem cuttings. Costus cuspidatus has a clumping growth habit and stays small at only 16" by 18". The dark green foliage is a great backdrop for those Cheeto Orange flowers. This are terminal flowers, usually there are 2-3 per stem and Fiery Costus is nice enough to flower all year round. Great in a shady garden but also works well in containers. Hardiness: USDA Zones
