Description Clethra alnifolia is a summer flowering shrub that works great in wet sites. This shrub can grow in sunny locations as well as shady locations but will perform best in locations with partial shade. The flowers are borne on bottlebrush like inflorescences mid to late summer. The flowers are fragrant and white to light pink in color and will attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds into the garden. Sweet Pepper Bush is deciduous and has a yellow fall color that will persist for 2-3 weeks. 'Hummingbird' is a dwarf cultivar which has a much more compact and spreading growth form than the species. This cultivar will have twice as many flowers than the species and will grow 3' by 3'. Hardiness: USDA Zones
