Chasmanthium latifolium - Northern Sea Oats

Landscape Picture

Description

Chasmanthium latifolium is a Texas Native grass that does well in shady conditions, especially in West Texas where it tends to be hotter. Northern Sea Oats has an arching growth habit and the foliage is reminiscent of Bamboo. This grass will grow well in partially shady areas as well. Northern Sea Oats is also a great choice for poorly drained areas where it can grow into a solid mat. This perennial grass can get 3 feet tall with a 2 foot spread. From late summer to early fall Northern Sea Oats will bear green oat-like seeds. These seeds will later age to a bronze color along with the foliage, which is great for winter contrast. This grass is great for containers, around water features, as well as for a woodland garden setting.
