Description

Alpinia zerumbet has the best foliage in partial sun. Typically this ginger will flower on the second year of growth. This clump forming perennial can grow to be as much as 10 feet tall with a spread of 3 to 4 feet. The variegated variety tends to be a bit smaller and shorter growing. Green Shell Ginger has long, densely massed stems with broad, green leaves. The flowers droop in sprays starting as waxy white or ivory buds, opening one at a time to reveal yellow lips with pink or red marked throats.
